This photo is a close up of the antennae (top and bottom), proboscis (midline) and palps of a common Culex pipiens mosquito. The image represents ~0.1 mm along the horizontal edge, and despite the detail, does not do justice to the surprising intricacy of these appendages, only visible under much higher magnification.
